services.
Since its launch in 1999, the company has evolved. The firm, which began as a hosted company offering Web hosting services for $25 and more, broke the market with a fully featured hosting plan for $7.77 a month, Joe Egosi, CTO of Hawk Communications, told TMCnet in an interview. As the company’s hosted customer base grew into the thousands, customers began asking more – this time in the form of dial up Internet service.
And soon, the company began reselling dial up service. Within a few years, Hawk Communications had 50 points of presence nationwide connected on its network.
“By choosing to build our own network we could stay competitive, and release new technologies first,” Egosi said. “We were the first national ISP to provide accelerated dial up, we were one of the first to offer v.92.”
And as the market changed once again, so did Hawk Communications. It converted its network to VoIP. By 2006, the company launched

, its residential broadband phone service.
Now, a decade later, the company has come full circle and is offering hosted PBX. The company’s hosted PBX gives SMBs the same features that the Fortune 500 enjoy, but for a fraction of the cost compared to traditional PBX systems
JoiBiz hosted PBX, also known as JoiPBX, eliminates the hurdles of customers buying, installing and maintaining costly equipment and an expensive maintenance contract. JoiPBX can handle equipment, maintenance, upgrade and repairs for $50 a month. company officials said.
As part of its marketing strategy, the company is pushing Hosted PBX services, in part, to help small and medium business better compete with large companies, Egosi said.
“The market today does not offer the right features at the right price for SMBs to compete with big business,” Egosi said. “Big business for years had the advantage over SMBs by having better communications.”
But now, SMBS have a helping hand with JoiBiz Hosted PBX. The service offers the same features big business enjoy, including auto-attend, call queue, real time display, conference calling and more without the need of expensive PBX equipment, maintenance or development costs. JoiBiz customizes, sets up and maintains the PBX for customers for $49.95 a month, Egosi said.
To celebrate the company’s 10-year anniversary, JoiBiz is offering free JoiPBX with the purchase of a JoiBiz T1 line. SoHo customers will receive two business unlimited lines and 5MB DSL for $99 a month. Hawk Communication’s residential brand, JoiPhone, is offering a phone line with unlimited local and long distance service to the United States and nine other countries for $10 a month.
